Madurai: A petition has been filed in the High Court branch seeking a ban on the movie Mamannan.
In a petition filed in the High Court branch, Manikandan, who hails from Palayamgottai in Nellai district, said, “Film director Mari Selvaraj is making films based on a particular community like Pariyerum Perumal, Karnan and now Mamannan.
His last film Karnan was based on an incident in Kodiankulam village. Mamannan, directed by Mari Selvaraj, will hit the screens on July 29. Its songs and trailer are meant to show the problems between the two communities.
Kathappa Pulidevan, who fought for freedom in Tenkasi district, is known as Mamannan. The film portrays him wrongly.
Also, Udayanidhi, who plays the lead role in the film, is a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and the Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports. Udayanidhi Stalin has acted in the film. This is against Article 173 (A) of the Constitution of India.
If the film is released, there is a possibility of a problem between the Devar and Devendra clan Velalar community. Therefore, an interim ban should be imposed on the release of the film Mamannan on 29.06.2023 and a ban should be ordered to broadcast the film on screen or on any other platform like any OTT platform,” the petition said.
The petition will come up for hearing soon.
