Periyar University withdraws black shirt ban - Convocation attended by Governor

Salem: The administration of Salem Periyar University has withdrawn its ban on wearing black shirts in the convocation ceremony attended by Governor RN Ravi.

Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi participates. For this, it was reported that organizations including Communist parties, Vimithu Siruthai parties, Periyar Thika are going to show black flag against Governor Ravi who is coming to Salem. The city police officials who came to know about the matter called the concerned party officials and held peace talks.

However, the party leaders did not agree with the police officers’ peace talks. They are refusing to accept the appeasement of the police officials saying that it is our right to show the black flag in protest against the actions of the Governor who is unilaterally acting against the Tamil Nadu government and in favor of the BJP.

However, as the police officials continue to hold talks with them, the police have advised that legal action will be taken against the governor if they raise black flags and protest.

‘Tada’ to wear a black shirt: At the same time, an announcement was made by Salem Periyar University administration that according to police instructions, students participating in the graduation ceremony are prohibited from wearing black shirts. The ban was condemned by the Salem District Committee of the Students’ Union of India.

In a press release issued by the Salem District Committee of the Indian Students Union, “How can a black shirt be considered a protest when there is no clear definition of which shirt is against and which shirt is acceptable? Interfering with the personal freedom of students is against the Constitution of India. The Periyar University administration has issued such a circular. “is strongly condemned. This circular should be immediately withdrawn by the university administration,” it said.

With continued opposition from political parties, the Periyar University administration withdrew its ban on black shirts. Periyar University issued a statement saying that this notification is being withdrawn keeping in mind the welfare of students and parents.

Meanwhile, the Salem police denied that they had given any instructions about the black shirt. Salem Police has clarified that no instruction has been given to Periyar University on behalf of the police.
