India last hosted the World Cup in 2011 along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The Indian team led by Dhoni won the World Cup. After almost 12 years, the World Cup series is going to be held in India again. Virender Sehwag, Muttiah Muralitharan, Jay Shah and ICC Executive Chairman Allardys announced the schedule at a function held in Mumbai.

The matches will be held at stadiums in Dharamsala, Delhi, Lucknow, Pune, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kolkata. Out of these, 5 matches each will be held in all the stadiums and 3 matches will be held only in Hyderabad.

India will face Australia in their first match on October 8.

Everyone had an expectation of where the matches played by the Pakistan team would be held. It is said that even Pakistan team refused to play in stadiums like Ahmedabad. However, in the schedule, Pakistan is also allotted a match in Ahmedabad.
