I had no understanding of reservation in 2011: Udayanidhi Stalin

Chennai: Udhayanidhi Stalin has said that he had no understanding of reservation when he made the film ‘Ejaham Vidhu’ in 2011.

After the films ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ and ‘Karnan’, director Mari Selvaraj’s film ‘Mamannan’ is coming. Produced by Red Giant Movies, the film stars Udhayanidhi Stalin in the lead role along with Fahadh Basil and Vadivelu. Keerthy Suresh is the female lead in the film. AR Rahman has composed the music. The film will hit the screens on 29th on the occasion of Bakrit festival.

The film crew is engaged in the promotional work for the film. Recently, in an interview given by Udhayanidhi Stalin to a private media, he shared various information about ‘Mamannan’. He said: “In 2010, when I was asked if I would act in cinema, I said ‘I won’t’. But then we should not come back and ask ‘Why did you act after saying that you won’t act?’. Circumstances change. People we meet along the way, things we read can change our perspective. In 2017, he asked me, ‘Will you join politics?’ When asked, I said, ‘There is no chance for that.’Now I have become an MLA and a minister.

Let me say one thing for political understanding. In the year 2011, I produced a film called ‘Ezhyam Vidu’ directed by AR Murugadoss. It contained a verse mocking reservation. I did not see it in the political understanding that existed at that time. I stopped thinking that it was only cinema. Suriya did not know when that scene was shot. He is not in that scene. Suriya, who saw the film after the shooting, called me and told me that the verse should not appear in the film; He told me to delete it. He had that understanding then. But I told him, “It’s no big deal. Let it be like that. I had no understanding of it then. But now that I think about it, I feel that the script should not have been in the film I made.” This is what Udhayanidhi Stalin has said.
