Coimbatore: Perurathinam Santalinga Marudachala Adikalar informed that the drum music conference jointly organized by Nimirvu Kalaiyakam and Perurathinam educational institutions will be held on the 18th.
In this regard, he told reporters in Coimbatore yesterday: As a first attempt to bring drum music to the people, the World Public Music Drum Conference is going to be held. The conference will be held from 9 am to 9 pm on the 18th at Tavathiru Santalinga Adikalar Arts and Science Tamil College, Perur. It will also feature an exhibition of more than a hundred archaeological tools.
The book ‘Irayum, Parayum’, which contains references to drumming not only in Sangha literature but also in devotional literature, and ‘Parayum Karpom’, the first textbook on drumming, will be published at the conference. 1,330 drums will be played at one place, simultaneously, in the name of ‘1330 Thirukkural Parapada’.
Performances of musical instruments from southern districts, rural areas and tribal people are also to be held. Artistic awards will be presented to artists, writers and organizers who have worked for drumming to make drumming artists proud. This is what he said.
