Chennai: A retired station superintendent in the railways has opined that an inquiry by the safety commissioner will be the only proper investigation into the Odisha train accident.
Retired Station Superintendent of Railways Manokaran said: Only proper investigation is conducted by Railway Safety Commissioner. This is the first field situation report regarding the accident. All departmental officers will be involved in this field survey. It is common for officials to say that their department is not to blame for accidents.
No wonder one’s opinion differs. A dissenting opinion was a signal engineer. The signal division is charged. A signal engineer would deny it. As for the interlocking system, once a train is given a signal it does not allow it to change.
Based on that argument, the Coromandel train is signalled. Therefore, he denies any fault in interlocking and blames his department. This is the reason for the discrepancy in the authorities report. Retired Station Superintendent Manokaran said this.
