
New Delhi: CBI conducted raids at 25 locations in connection with corruption charges against 21 officials, including the former general manager of BSNL.
CBI has registered an FIR that Assam BSNL’s former general manager, deputy general manager, assistant general manager and others were involved in corruption and caused losses to BSNL along with contractors. Subsequently, CBI conducted surprise raids at 25 places.
The CBI spokesperson said in a statement, “A contract of Rs. 90,000 per kilometer was awarded in open tender mode for laying the National Optical Fiber Network cable. Later, citing various reasons, the contractor was requested to pay Rs. 2.30 lakh per kilometer. Subsequently, using the relaxation provisions in the contract, “The rule has been violated. Because of this, BSNL has suffered a loss of around Rs 22 crore,” he said.
The CBI, which registered a case regarding this corruption, conducted raids at 25 places including the offices and houses of the accused in the states of Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and Haryana.
