
New Delhi: The Union Cabinet gave its approval to increase the minimum support price for paddy by Rs.143. As a result, the support price of common grade paddy has been raised to Rs 2,183 from Rs 2,040 in the previous year. Similarly, the support price for pulses has also been set at an all-time high of Rs 8,558 per quintal.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday. In this, approval was given to increase the minimum support price for various Kharib (summer) crops for the crop year 2023-24.
Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs Piyush Goyal told reporters in this regard: We are fixing the minimum support price for agricultural produce based on the recommendations issued by the Commission on Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) from time to time.
The minimum support price for Caribbean crops has been significantly increased this year as compared to last year. Farmers will benefit greatly from the increase in minimum support price in this scenario of rapidly decelerating retail inflation.
The support price of common quality paddy for the 2023-24 crop year has been increased by Rs 143 to Rs 2,183 per quintal. It was Rs 2,040 in the previous year.
Similarly, the support price for ‘A’ grade paddy has been increased by Rs.163 to Rs.2,203.
Rs 8,558 for pulses: While Rs 7,755 per quintal of pulses was paid in the previous year, the support price has been increased by 10.4 per cent to Rs 8,558 in the current year. This step has been taken to encourage the farmers. This is what he said.
The support price for pulses has been raised to an all-time high. Paddy is the staple crop of the Caribbean. It should be noted that the sowing work for this usually starts during the southwest monsoon.
2,980 crores for Coal Project: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs yesterday gave approval to proceed with the Rs 2,980 crore coal and brown coal (lignite) project studies.
Coal, brown coal exploration under this scheme is conducted in 2 broad stages. 1st stage, promotional (regional) study and 2nd stage comprehensive study in non-Cole-India constituencies.
An outlay of Rs 1,650 crore has been approved for Promotional (Regional) Survey and Rs 1,330 crore for non-Coal-India work.
About 1,300 sq. km. Area will be covered under regional studies. 650 sq km. The area will undergo a detailed survey.

Rs 89,047 crore for BSNL projects: The 3rd relief package for BSNL was approved at a meeting of the Union Cabinet yesterday at an estimated cost of Rs.89,047 crore. The package also includes allotment of 4G and 5G spectrum to BSNL through ‘equity infusion’. Also, BSNL’s authorized capital will be increased from Rs 1.50 lakh crore to Rs 2.10 lakh crore.
The Union Cabinet also approved the Rs 5,452 crore metro rail project between Delhi next Gurugram Hooda City Center – Cyber City.
