
Gandhinagar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah inspected the areas affected by Cyclone Pipparjoy in Gujarat.
Cyclone Pibarjai, which originated in the Arabian Sea, made landfall in Gujarat’s Saurashtra and Kutch region last Thursday night as a very intense storm. 140 km per hour then. 5,120 power poles were downed by high-speed winds. As a result 4,600 villages were cut off. Electricity connection was restored in 3,580 villages yesterday. 600 trees were uprooted on 3 state highways, blocking traffic yesterday. 9 houses and 20 cottages were completely damaged in the storm. 2 houses and 474 cottages were partially damaged. As the storm crossed the coast, heavy rains lashed the entire Kutch region. The rain continued till 2.30 am yesterday morning. However, there was no loss of life when Cyclone Bibarjoy made landfall.
In this case, Amit Shah visited and inspected the storm-affected areas by helicopter and then went to Mandvi area and met the affected people. Amit Shah inquired about the availability of basic facilities there and directed the authorities to immediately provide the necessary assistance to the affected people.
He met the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) soldiers involved in rescue and relief work and expressed appreciation to them. Later, Amit Shah went to Swami Narayan Temple in Bhuj area. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was also present during this inspection.
