New Delhi: Deoband, Saharanpur District, Uttar Pradesh is home to the world famous Darul Uloom Madrasah. About 4,000 students study. It was started in 1866. This Madrasa has gained respect in Muslim countries including Pakistan.

Here students are taught general education such as English, Science, Mathematics along with Islamic religious education. As a result of this, after studying in madrasas, these students also study higher education in other public educational institutions. English is very important for them.

Although English is the medium of instruction in madrassas, many students attend English classes at training centers outside for extra practice. The administration of Darul Uloom believes that madrasa education is hindered due to this.

In this case, the madrasa administration announced on the 12th that if the students go outside for English training, they will be removed from the madrasa. There has been strong opposition to this order among most of the students.

Maulana Arshad Madani, head of the Muslim social welfare organization Jamaat-e-Ulama-e-Hind, which plays an important role in the administration of madrasas, says, “After completing madrasa education, students can go for engineering, medicine, etc. They cannot ride in 2 boats at the same time,” he said.

Deoband Madrasa spokesperson Ashraf Usmani told ‘ Vektik’ newspaper, “English is taught inside the madrasa. This order has been issued in the interest of the students as it causes problems if they study outside.

in this situation. In the notice sent by the State Minorities Commission to the administration of Darul Uloom Madrasa, it has been mentioned that the students will be given an explanation on the 21st about the ban on learning English.

Aligarh Muslim University was started by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan in 1875 under the Central Government. Along with Madrasah education, he said, “Muslims can progress only if they study science and English”. Thus the Maulanas issued a fatwa on Sir Syed Ahmed Khan that he was not a Muslim. It is worth recalling that the Maulanas joined Aligarh Muslim University and excelled in English and Science.
