In 1990, Papachan and his wife Mariamma were living in Mavelikkara, Alappuzha district, Kerala. An 18-year-old uncle named Reggie was working in their house at that time. It is said that he used to treat Reggie like his own daughter. On 21 February 1990, Mariamma was stabbed to death in 9 places with a knife used in the kitchen of her house. The three-and-a-half Sawaran gold chain around his neck and the earrings in his ear were looted.

One ear had been cut with a knife and the gum was removed. In this case, the police became suspicious of Reggie, an 18-year-old mother who was working at home. But the people of the town were saying that there is no possibility that he would have killed Mariamma, who raised him like his own daughter. In this situation, Reggie was arrested in the case of murder after intensive investigation. In 1993, the Mavelikkarai Court acquitted Reggie Achamma from the case.
The public prosecutor then appealed to the Kerala High Court. On September 11, 1996, the Kerala High Court convicted Regi and sentenced him to life imprisonment in that case. He absconded within hours of the verdict. The police set up a special force and searched for him in many places but he was not found. In this situation, he was working in a cloth shop in Ballarimangalam area of Ernakulam. After 27 years, Reggie is caught in the police net at the age of 51. It is also revealed that she changed her name to Mini Raju along with her husband’s name. He has 2 children.

Regarding Reggie’s arrest, the police said, “Reggie, who went into hiding after being declared a criminal, had been doing domestic work in Kottayam area for a few years under the name Mini. Then he became acquainted with a construction worker from Thakalai in Tamil Nadu. He married her in 1999 and lived in Thakalai for some time. Reggie was married till he came from Tamil Nadu. “It came to light recently. On investigation using that information as a ticket, it was revealed that he was working in a clothes shop named Mini Raju in Gothamangalam area of Ernakulam district. Following this, Reggie was arrested,” they said.
The arrested Reggie Mavelikar was produced in the court and lodged in the Thiruvananthapuram Central Jail. Reggie, who was declared guilty of murder by the court when she was a young woman, has been arrested after 27 years as a mother of two children.
