Since the scheme was launched on June 11 till date, around one crore women across Karnataka have traveled on buses for free.
This scheme of the Karnataka government has become a talking point on social media. On one side praising this, on the other side teasing women, many people are giving different opinions.
Joydeep Sen Sharma took to Twitter and posted a photo of a woman holding her free ticket on a BMTC bus with the caption, ‘This poor girl is enjoying a free bus ride. He posted that the smart watch he has built should also be improved. The tweet has since been deleted.
“With this free bus travel, many girls will prefer to travel in buses. Hence, booking a separate car or auto is reduced. Some have mentioned that this will reduce the number of vehicles and have a good effect against climate change.

And some pointed to the women who benefited from the Tamil Nadu government’s free travel scheme and mentioned that the women of Karnataka should also benefit.
The private bus owners have demanded that the government should abandon the scheme saying that the scheme of the Karnataka government has forced the private bus companies into bankruptcy.
Not seeing this as a project for the advancement of women, many people are commenting with sexist jokes why only women are free.
This project of the Karnataka government has become a topic of conversation in the state as many people are expressing their opinions regarding the ‘Shakti’ project.
