Quota: As the hospital did not have a wheelchair, the lawyer raised his son, who suffered a leg fracture, on an electric scooter and took the lift to the 3rd floor.
MBS Hospital is located in Kota, Rajasthan. The largest hospital receives 3,000 outpatients per day. There are not enough wheelchairs for patients here. Manoj Jain, a lawyer, went to this hospital last Thursday for treatment with his son who suffered a fractured leg.
The fracture department was on the 3rd floor of the hospital. So he asked the hospital staff to bring a wheelchair. They have said that the square chair is not available now.
As it was difficult for him to lift his broken leg, he asked the hospital staff to put him on his electric scooter and take the lift to the 3rd floor. They also agreed. So he went to the hospital with his son on an electric scooter and went to the 3rd floor through the lift.
On seeing someone driving a scooter inside the hospital, Devviginand, the 3rd floor in-charge of the hospital, intercepted Manoj Jain and grabbed the scooter’s keys. This led to a heated argument between the two in the hospital. There was an uproar in the hospital as the hospital manager said that driving a scooter inside the hospital was a violation and the lawyer said that the lack of wheelchairs for patients was irresponsible on the part of the hospital management.
The police who were on police duty at the hospital pacified both of them and sent them away. This caused a commotion at MBS Hospital.
